Landscape Greenhouse in Yantai Botanical Garden

The greenhouse site is located in the southeast of Yantai Botanical Garden, surrounded by undulating hills and lush trees. The north side of the greenhouse is a hill with a height difference of 28 meters. The clear spring water flowing from the valley on the east side merges into a pool of clear water in front of the greenhouse.

Due to functional needs, the building has varying height and uniform steel and glass material quality, which makes the building itself have to become one of the important roles of the space, but there is also a real protagonist—the scenery from all directions.

What the design needs to do: listen to the sounds of nature and respond to them in the easiest way! The roof curve echoes to the surrounding topographical characteristics, thereby establishing a transition point between nature and artificiality; the formal interest comes from the refinement of traditional painting techniques, and forms an abstract and concrete comparison relationship with the real landscape. The scattered layout not only meets the natural ventilation and lighting requirements of each exhibition area, but also forms a level-by-level progressive spatial layer with partition but without interruption. Through engineering optimization, the curved glass part, which accounts for 28% of the total glass area, is concentrated in the peak and valley part, which reduced the implementation difficulty of the project.
